The Soldier's Monument, Berwick, ca. 1911

During a Town Meeting on March 14, 1911 an article to allow a soldier's monument to be placed on Sullivan Square in front of Town Hall was approved by the residents of Berwick. This monument was proposed by the John A. Logan Relief Corp.
The John A. Logan Relief Corp. was established to render assistance to needy veterans and their dependents and to do all that was in their power to advance and promote the teaching of patriotism in the public schools.
The cost, $2,000, was approved and appropriated by the town. The monument was established in the memory of those who fought in the Civil War.
