Description

This manuscript map was made for the Pejepscot Company. The map shows 50 acres laid out for Acter Patten of Topsham along the Cathance River. The Pejepscot Proprietors spent much of the second half of the 18th century struggling with Brunswick and Topsham residents who squatted on unsold land, stalled on payments, or helped themselves to timber on company land, while arguing that, by assuming the risk of moving to Maine, and making the company claim valuable, they deserved a greater share of it.

Scale [1:7920] 40 poles to one inch.
