Description
Under sail, the schooner shows off a low rig, rounded bow, and compact shape, all designed for Arctic conditions where the vessel would typically encounter either too much or too little wind. The classic lines of the American "knockabout" fishing schooner inspired naval architect William Hand and owner Donald MacMillan to build a strong but well-shaped vessel. Launched in East Boothbay from the Hodgdon Brothers' yard in 1921, the schooner Bowdoin is still sailing more than 90 years later.
