This postcard valentine has a handwritten French verse on the back signed by Charles Briant. The translated French verse reads, "Though sweetly beams the evening star, Thy smile, dear girl, is sweeter far."
Postcard valentines were very fashionable in America, and often collected and pasted into albums.
