Description

This postcard, made in France, has a handwritten message in French on the back signed by Charles Briant. There is no postmark, stamp, or address on the card. He wrote, "Mon amitie et ma reconnaissance a mon petite frere d'Amerique et sa famille." It translates as "My friendship and my greetings to my little American brother and his family."

Silk postcards were developed in 1898 and appeared at the Paris Exposition of 1900; its popularity peaked during World War I. Around 1915, French women began producing the cards as part of a thriving cottage industry.
