Description

The annual program for the Thursday Club, Biddeford, for 1897-8 club season lists 34 meetings, each developed and presided over by a different member.

The theme for the year's work was "English Literature: Questions of the Day: Current Events."

For example, the program for the December 23rd meeting, run by Miss Laura E. Goodwin, was as follows:

Sterne as Humorist.
Reading, Sermon on Evil Speaking.
Smollett. Roderick Random. Peregrine Pickle.
David Hume. Essays and History.
Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations.
Paper, Description of Congressional Library at Washington.
