An illustration of an Indian boy, a muskrat, and a duck that accompanies a story, "How Lox deceived the Ducks, cheated the Chief, and beguiled the Bear," Algonquin Legends of New England or Myths and Folk Lore of the Micmac, Passamaquoddy, and Penobscot Tribes by Charles G. Leland (1884).
The Passamaquoddy words for the Indian, the muskrat and the duck also are etched onto the birchbark.
