Description
Caricature sketches of the crew members of the Southern Cross, drawn by S.G. Wells from the Herald in Melbourne, Australia.
Navigator Harry Lyon of Paris Hill and radioman James Warner were American and pilot Charles Kingsford Smith and co-pilot Charles Ulm were Australian.
They made the first trans-Pacific flight in 1928 and set a record for the longest flight over open water on the Hawaii to Fiji leg of the trip. The total flight was 83 hours and 50 minutes.
