Don Wright of the Miami News sent Samantha Smith, 11, of Manchester, a copy of an editorial cartoon he drew depicting her trip to the Soviet Union.

The cartoon shows two bomb heads, one labeled U.S. and one U.S.S.R. and a girl jumping from one to the other. The caption is "Samantha."

Smith (1972-1985) had written to Soviet leader Yuri Andropov advocating for peace and asking him if he planned to start a war. He invited her and her family to visit the Soviet Union to be reassured that he did not plan to start a war.

Smith's letter and subsequent trip received international press coverage.
