Samuel Butman, Dixmont, 1853

Description

Samuel Butman (1788-1864), a native of Worcester, Massachusetts, was successful in agriculture and trade, erecting a set of mills in Dixmont Center.

He was a captain in the War of 1812, was a member of the first Maine Constitutional Convention and served in the Maine House of Representatives in 1822, 1826, and 1827.

He was elected to the United States Congress in 1827 and again in 1831.

He was elected to the Maine Senate in 1853, serving as its President that year.
