Town meeting minutes, Cumberland, 1863
These minutes from the Cumberland town meeting of July 30, 1863 instruct the town to draw $300 for each man conscripted to serve in the Civil War, and use the money to either find a substitute or go to war.
If neither option was chosen, the $300 would be returned to the town.
