The Children's Gate in the Longfellow Garden behind the Wadsworth-Longfellow House on Congress Street in Portland, as it was in the 1930s.
Anne Longfellow Pierce, the sister of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, bequeathed the house and grounds -- their childhood home -- to the Maine Historical Society in 1901 to preserve the memory of her brother.
