In 1978, "The primary success story of the year for all of us was the outpouring of support ($2.4 million) from our six-county referral area for funding of a regional cancer radiation center at EMMC."

Edward E. Rosen is presented the distinguished service award.

The Hilda C. Rosen Special Care Unit for infants and children is in full operation on Phillips-Oliver 5.

Two shelled floors above Family Practice are completed, and now house outpatient pediatric and psychiatric services.

A residual bequest in excess of $500,000 is received from the estate of Luther S. Mason, M.D.; the new building's largest education/conference space is named Luther S. Mason Auditorium in his memory.

Modifications are made in the Blaisdell Building and "inpatient psychiatric services are being provided there temporarily rather than in the old 1899 building."

The chapel is dedicated.
