Maine Historical Society
John Pyles petitioned Sir Edmond Andross, governor of New England, requesting a grant of land west of the Pemaquid River.
Pyles' petition notes that he -- by orders of a captain from the garrison at Pemaquid -- had read prayers at the garrison on Wednesdays and Friday since June and "hath not Received any thing for itt."
He requested "only one Mans Provision" from the garrison.
Pyles also offered to continuing reading prayers.
