Born in Biddeford in 1930, Sister Madeleine Couture joined the Good Shepherd sisters in her early 20s. In her interview, she shared stories from her life growing up in Biddeford, beginning in the 1930s as well as her recollections of World War II and the Fire of 1947. She went to college to become a teacher and dedicated her life to that profession. She taught school in Massachusetts and Tennessee, as well as Grand Isle and Old Town Maine. She also taught at St Joseph's School in Biddeford from 1984 to 1992 and volunteered for over 10 years at St. James School after retiring.
