The stories my parents told

The stories my parents told

A story by Henry Gartley ranging from 1920s-2017

Henry Gartley told stories about his immigrant parents--his mother from England and father from Canada, and how they made a life together in Houlton.

I have a lot of stories about growing up in my hometown of Houlton in Aroostook County. My father was from Canada and mother was his war bride, from England.

Houlton was a harsh environment, my father told stories about my grandfather selling firewood in Market Square in Houlton to buy coats for the family. I love stories, and so it's no surprise I became involved with the Aroostook County Historical and Art Museum, where I serve on the Board of Trustees.
