Description

This shipping box contained 24 half-pound boxes of cocoa for the Jameson & Wotton store. The side of the box indicates that the Walter Baker Co. was awarded a gold medal at the Paris Exposition in 1900. Cocoa was a typical item sold at the Jameson & Wotton store, which catered to both mainland and island customers.

The lobster smack Foster D delivered mail and a variety of goods from the store to the islanders from whom they purchased lobsters, which they took back to the Jameson & Wotton wharf to be sold. The store delivered orders for groceries, hardware and animal feed, supplies for lobstering, and gas and kerosene.
