The "Foster D" Lobster Smack

The Foster D was a motorized lobster smack designed to hold live lobsters in a perforated well that allowed water to circulate. One of the earliest motor boat in Friendship, the Foster D allowed the Jameson & Wotton Wharf to range far into Muscongus Bay and beyond to pick up lobsters from many sites in a single day.

Sherman Jameson’s list of stopping points included Port Clyde, Martinsville, Metinic, Georges Island, Harbor Island, Cranberry Island, Cedar Island, Pleasant Point, Maple Juice Cove, Hatchet Cove, Brown’s Cove, Round Pond, Bremen Long Island, and other islands along the way.
