Description

Marshall Phillips describes the Battle of West Point, Virginia, in a letter to his wife, Diana, in Auburn.

He wrote that West Point was quite pretty "or would be if it was not for the rebelion that pervales here it looks bad to me on that account."

Phillips enlisted in the 5th Maine Regiment in 1861 and served through the end of the war. He wrote frequently to his wife and four children.
