Description

"Your brother Ned" wrote to "Dear Sister Persis" Blanchard in Cumberland on Jan 5, 1862. He was a sergeant in the 10th Maine Regiment.

He reported that he had been sick with chills and fever for six weeks. He said he was on railroad patrol for three days and nights, looking for deserters between Baltimore and Washington.

He reported that the company was building barracks and he expected his company, "C," would "go up the line" soon to relieve Co. A and that it was cold and snowy and most of the men did not have sufficient under clothes.

He expected his company to join General Burnside at Annapolis soon.
