Description
This photograph shows the Main Street Department store Lafond and Company's automobile decorated for a parade. The parade was likely Westbrook's centennial parade in 1914.
Lafond & Co. was started in 1884, by Sifroy Lafond, who moved here from Canada in 1892, after having operated a department store in Canada for several years. LaFond & Co. continued to be a viable part of Westbrook's retail community until it closed in the 1960s. Passenger to right of driver in picture is Hormidas Alexis LaFond who owned LaFond & Co. after the passing of his father, Sifroy.
