Cheney Barber Shop, Lubec, 1975, 1975

Contributed by Lubec Historical Society

Description

Roland Cheney's Barber Shop, painted red, stood on Water Street opposite Lubec Narrows. The Lubec Memorial Library was built on this site, extending to the corner of School Street, in 2001.

The two story structure behind the barber shop housed both the Lubec Town Hall and telephone offices, at different times. As of 2012 that building serves as a storage facility. The building visible to the right, which dates from before 1900, was razed in 2011.

Marty and Pauline Roman lived in the part of the building that wasn’t the barber shop.
