Description

Leona Stephens Hollister wrote the words and music to "Somewhere in Maine," published in 1927 by Cressey & Allen of Portland.

Leona Stephens (circa 1885-1982) was a writer and actor who worked on the Broadway stage in New York and in vaudeville in the early 20th century. Stephens published songs from the 1920s through the 1940s. The cover of the sheet music notes that the song was featured on Keith's Circuit--a popular chain of vaudeville theaters--by Stephens and her husband, Len D. Hollister (1884-1936).

The song is about someone looking forward to going to Maine for the summer. The words include:"I'm go'n' to stay, I'm go'n' to play, I'm go'n' to live in the woods till winter comes again ... Somewhere in Maine. I'm go'n' to Maine."

The back of the sheet music features the first page of a song "Sebago" and the heading "Try this over on your piano."
