Description
Store interior in Lubec. Examination of this fascinating old photograph reveals mostly tobacco products and candy. The wooden box with cast iron fittings between the glass cases appears to be a coin activated machine. On the front, “Drop one...” with the coin name blocked from view. The poster behind the clerk’s head offers an excursion to Boston on October 23rd, 1899 (thus dating this photograph), on the then-new Washington County Railroad. Trains bypassed Lubec, the nearest stations at Machias and Dennysville-Pemboke.
