Description
A portrait of Thomas Hill and his family.
Hill and his wife, Ann Foster Bellows Hill, are seated. Standing at rear are Mary Bellows Hill and Henry (Harry), the two oldest children. Seated in front are, from left, Katherine, Elizabeth (Bessy) and Anna (Nan).
Hill was president of Antioch College from 1858-1862, then president of Harvard from 1862-1868, became minister of First Parish Church in Portland in 1873, a post he held until his death in 1891.
In 1860, Mary was 14, Henry was 11, Katharine was 9, Elizabeth was 6, and Anna was 3.
They later had Thomas (1864) and Otis (1868).
