Description
Smith & Rumery building contractors of Portland wrote to Dr. Estes Nichols, superintendent of the Maine State Sanatorium in Hebron, asking for payment of their bill. The company built some of the structures at the tuberculosis sanatorium.
The privately run facility had continuing cash-flow problems. The state provided some funds for patients who could not pay the full cost of treatment.
