Description
A photograph of a painting of President Abraham Lincoln. The photograph was signed by Lovell artist Douglas Volk in 1927.
Douglas Volk is the son of Leonard Volk who had created numerous sculptures of Lincoln, including a life mask and bust.
This painting was perhaps done by Douglas Volk who was familiar with Lincoln through his father's sculptures and meetings with him. When he grew older and became an artist, Douglas was fascinated with Lincoln, so he studied the face of Lincoln through photos and sculptures, creating numerous portraits of him.
