Description
Thomas Child was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1730. After working as a merchant in Boston for several years, Child moved to Falmouth (Portland) in 1765 to take a job with the custom house as tide surveyor. During that time he also served as the first Postmaster of Portland. He died in 1787 at the age of 57.
