Description
A two-piece cobalt blue floral and cream silk dress associated with Annie Moriarty, a corsetière by trade. By the 1920s, she owned and operated Moriarty's Corset Shop at 162 Lisbon St. in Lewiston.
The dress, dating to the first few years of the 20th century, includes a standing collar trimmed with cream colored lace and bishop sleeves with tight cuffs. The outer bodice has a draped, pigeon-breasted shape, very on trend for the period. The attached shoulder capelet is heavily embellished with cotton lace. The trumpeted skirt with a slight train is also emblematic of the era's fashions.
Annie I. Moriarty (1872-1963) worked as a store clerk prior to opening the her corset shop in 1921. The business operated through the mid-1940s.
