Description
This early view of Market Square looking onto Main Street showed many wooden building that succumbed to future fires.
Businesses included, left to right on Main Street: E. Merritt and Sons, Brown and Watson, Chas. P. Tenney, and Henry J. Hatheway companies.
On the far right of photo were signs for C. H. Wilson grocery and Lovejoy Tin shop signs, and a J.A. Browne sign on the distant far right block.
Due to the many fires that Houlton suffered in its early days, this particular view existed for only four years.
