Description
A sign on the back of the carriage in front of Achorn Bros. store advertised G. T. Gilbert & Son's Sale Stable, a place where horses were sold.
On the back of the postcard Ellen Achorn Smith Weiblen (1902-1987) pointed out Sally (the horse) and a millstone on the right. It is next to the granite wall which ran along the front of the neighboring Charles F. Achorn house. Charles acquired his house from Alson B. Folsom in 1882.
Ellen also mentioned an old Balm of Gilead tree "that grew from a walking cane Al Folsom [1841-1920] cut one day when walking in the woods. When he got home he stuck it in the ground. It took root and grew." The tree, believed to be the one on the left, was planted prior to 1882 when Al still owned the house. The trees were not there in 2017.
