Leonard Valentine to parents, Virginia, 1862

Description

Pvt. Leonard Valentine of the 25th Maine Infantry, stationed at Camp Seward in Virginia, wrote to his parents in Westbrook, reporting that Co. E, to which he belonged, had just marched to a camp at Arlington Heights on the Virginia side of the Potomac where they were guarding Long Bridge. He commented on heavy rain storms.

The company was mustered in on September 29, 1862, to serve for nine months. Valentine was 22 when he joined the unit.
