Description
Kiah B. Sewall, who was studying law in New York City, wrote to his wife, Lucretia Day Sewall, who was living in Portland, about an lung hemorrhage he had suffered.
Sewall, who also was trying to get out of debt so the couple could live together, had written to his wife about three weeks earlier about his good health.
Sewall (1807-1865) wrote, "It is not a very incouraging symptom for a person in my circumstances - but I trust that with great care to keep along ... I am like an oak planted in a glass jar - It will be some time before I can labor as I have done."
Sewall noted he was in the last year of his internship to become a lawyer.
