Norcross House in winter, Norcross, ca. 1915

Contributed by Norcross Heritage Trust

Description

The Norcross Transportation Company owned The Norcross House complex, which consisted of an amalgamation of older and newer structures, the earliest dating to around 1895.

The hotel, as seen here, was completed between 1910-15. It had all the amenities of urban hotels of the time, including eight rooms with electricity, steam heat, baths, and a dining room that provided first-class meals.

The hotel served transient guests on their way to and from sporting camps on the upper reaches of the West Branch of the Penobscot River. The complex included a post office, a supply store that offered everything for travel and work in the backwoods, and more modest rooms for the guides and workers.
