Description

Elise Fellows White played Chopin's Etude in D for this recording, made in New York in 1942.

White (1873-1953), a violin prodigy from Skowhegan, had studied in Boston with Franz Kneisel and in Vienna with Kneisel's teacher, Jakob Grun when she was a young girl and teenager.

Born Mary Elise Fellows, she met Bruce White while on a musical tour in 1895-96. They married in 1898 and lived in Nelson, British Columbia, where he was a mine owner and operator.

White returned to the East in 1907. She made this recording in 1942.
