Francis M. Eveleth, Presque Isle, ca. 1861

Description

Francis M. Eveleth of Presque Isle enlisted in the 7th Maine Infantry as assistant surgeon. On Feb. 13, 1863, he was appointed regimental surgeon, and, in August 1864, became surgeon of the 1st Maine Veteran Infantry.

He mustered out on June 28, 1865. He received an invalid's pension in December 1891 and died in 1895.

He was born in 1832 in Phillips, to Frederic and Elizabeth Eveleth. He had two sisters, Mary and Martha, and two brothers, Fernando and Charles, who also served in the Civil War. Eveleth was a graduate of the Ohio Medical College.

The men mustered in on August 21, 1861 in Augusta.
