Description

The Isabelle Nickerson building on Commercial Street in Boothbay Harbor was the location for Pierce Furniture and the headquarters for the U.S. Navy Reserve Patrol in 1917.

Several Navy Patrol Boats and over 100 naval reservists were stationed in Boothbay Harbor from 1917-1918. The Navy occupied the second and third floors of the Nickerson building.

This image also shows Navy uniformed men cleaning up in front of the building while town children watch. In the foreground, the triangle plot for a town fountain (installed later) has been prepared.

In 1942, this store became Carbone's Fruit Company and continued to be run as a small grocery store until 1992, when it was sold. Several different stores and small markets occupied this storefront in subsequent years.
