Description

Georges-Louis Le Rouge based this map of Nova Scotia on works by English cartographer Thomas Jefferys and French cartographer Jacques-Nicholas Bellin. He created it in 1755; this copy is a 1778 reissue (though it is dated 1755). In addition to Nova Scotia, this map also encompasses Quebec as far west as Montreal and extends south to include Boston. It features a table of comparable latitudes and longitudes for some 25 locations by cartographers Popple, Durell, Bellin, d’Anville, Robert, Blackmore, and John Mitchell. Le Rouge also includes an explanation of the table in French and in German.
