This appears to have been taken during the demolition of the buildings called the 'Gas Patch' in Lewiston. The photograph was taken by Gridley Barrows who was an architect of note in Lewiston.
The 'Gas Patch' was a neighborhood of single family dwellings located next to the gas storage tank. They were built by Irish immigrants in the early 20th century on Franklin Company land.
