Description
Barber shop in the Hotel Coburn showing, possibly, the barber shop's proprietor J. Harry Williams at the chair around 1900. The Hotel Coburn was opened in 1881 and burned in 1918.
"(Shown through the courtesy of Mrs. Howard B. Friend) The customer is probably the late George Lynch, who was chef at the Coburn in Skowhegan for many years. The gentleman waiting is Santiago. This appellation is probably a nickname, as he was the brother of Frank S. Cairns. He came here from Cuba; could not speak a word of English; had never seen snow or ice, and on touching a piece of latter material told his brother, in Spanish, that " it burned him."
