Skowhegan's First Bank Building

Contributed by Skowhegan History House

Description

"This was erected on the northerly side of Island Avenue, facing across the north channel bridge. It was afterward moved to the location shown in the picture, on Park Street, on the Skowhegan Island. It has been rebuilt so that very little about it resembles the day when it was a financial institution. It may be noted, however, that there are very small panes in the gable window and it is said that the sash has never been changed. It has been occupied for residential purposes for many years. For a more complete description of this building, and of the First National Bank, which traces its ancestry to this structure, reference is made to "A Century of Service," issued by the financial institution just mentioned.
