Contributed by Maine Historical Society

Description

Simeon Malone of Portland wrote to Mr. Evans of the Sanitary Commission, acknowledging receipt of his letter about the death of Malone's brother.

He wrote, "You can imagine our feelings when we read that sad news and the thoughts tat our beloved brother should be thus taken away from us just as the dawn of peace had come after all the battles that he went through."

Malone sought information of the location of his brother's death by the hands of a "traitor" and details of the circumstances.
