George Woodman to Rebecca Usher, Canada, 1841

Contributed by Maine Historical Society

Description

Rebecca Usher (1821-1912) of Hollis was studying at the Ursuline Convent at Three Rivers, Quebec, Canada, in 1841. She received a letter addressed to "Friend" from George Woodman in New York.

Woodman wrote that he had not written because he did not know where Usher was after she left "Saco's banks." She was in school in Saco before going to Canada.

He writes about Maine and compares it to New York, which he describes and urges Usher to visit. He also fills her in on activities of relatives and friends.
