Description
Capt. Edward Stone, a passenger on the steamer Bohemian from Liverpool, England, to Portland, gave a deposition of the events of February 22, 1864 when the steamer hit Alden's Rock, four miles from Cape Elizabeth.
Forty passengers and two crew members died in the wreck. Officials in Portland took depositions from some of the crew and some passengers to determine the cause of the accident and the circumstances that led to the deaths of passengers.
