Main Street buildings, Westbrook, ca. 1960

Contributed by Walker Memorial Library

Description

This photograph was taken in the winter around 1960 of Westbrook's downtown businesses. Some of the businesses in this photograph include The Westbrook Trust, McLellan's store, the First National Store, Rocheleau's clothing shop, and Zahares' Restaurant.

The Westbrook Trust Company was established in 1891, with Leander Valentine as the first bank president, who became Westbrook's first mayor that year as well. There has been a bank on that site since 1891, today in 2013, it is Bank of America. The woman on the right in the front of the bank is Georgianna Buote.
