This photograph is of the Dana Warp Mill, on the island in the Presumpscot River, as it looked after it had been rebuilt after a fire in 1893. The fire destroyed a section of the building on Labor Day, 1893.
The business came into being after Woodbury K. Dana, purchased a small mill on Bridge Street, in 1866, and began manufacturing cotton warp. The business soon outgrew the original buildings and in 1879, Dana purchased a woolen mill on the island, built in 1876, from George Warren. Dana continued to expand the mill over the years.
