Description

Sunday, July 30th, 1944 was an outstanding day for the residents of Monson as they held a dedication ceremony for the new Veterans Honor Roll. Located on a vacant lot owned by the Masonic Doric Lodge and the Post Office, the area was decorated with baskets of flowers and flags as townspeople gathered around for the ceremony.

The Monson Band played, a prayer was offered by Rev. Joseph Griffiths, and the Veterans Honor Roll was unveiled. Mr. Arthur Bray read the names of those who served and as the Gold Star Names were read, three from WWI and two from WWII, baskets of flowers were placed in front of the roll as can be seen in this photograph.

The children representing the branches of the service pictured here are: Janet Bjork, Carolyn DeSano, David Warman, David Holmbom, Evelyn Simmons, Doris Nelson, and Lucinda Forbus.
