Upper Main Street in Winter, Dixfield, ca. 1927

Contributed by Dixfield Historical Society

Description

This wintry postcard of upper Main Street, Dixfield, is dated 1927. Horses and sleighs were still in use for winter transportation, and electrical wires were well established by that time. The F.H. Keene Store on the left became Holmes Market and the building just to the right of Keene's, called the "old Taintor Place", and was lost to fire. In 2013 it is a parking lot. The brick Harlow Block, built by Elbridge Harlow in 1878, on the right was razed in 1979.
