Road Signs after re-painting, Northeast Harbor, ca. 1955

Contributed by Mount Desert Island Historical Society

Description

This is a photograph taken by Charles Kenneth Savage to illustrate the type of road sign color and paint that could be used to enhance the public view on scenic by-ways. Savage was a local activist in the Mount Desert Island area who was instrumental in convincing local and state authorities to use a different approach to signage on public roads that would detract less from motorists' views of the countryside.
