Contributed by Lubec Historical Society

Description

These buildings lay along an area numbered in the 21st Century between 431 and 441 North Lubec Road, the east or water side, later heavily wooded. In addition to “Hilltop School” in the village, the Town of Lubec operated up to a dozen rural schools within its 33 square miles.

Nugent Hall was used for community events such as dances and plays. Charles H. Nugent had a candy store in his home, two houses north of the Lawrence Brothers general store and Post Office. A son, Lloyd Nugent, is census-listed as a Lubec pharmacy manager; he lived in Calais in later years.
